In our Prophetic Sciences class, Shaykh Yasir showed us the path towards The Prophet ﷺ: knowing him, loving him, following him. This Ramadan, Shaykh Yasir Fahmy and Dr. Ibrahim Elhoudaiby, will teach us about one the most widely recognized means of loving him ﷺ: the recitation of The Burda. The Burda, or the Qasida Al-Burda (The Poem of the Mantle), is a poem in praise of the Prophet ﷺ. It was composed by Imam Al Busiri in the 7th century Hijri and is one of the most widely recited and memorized poems in the world. This poem used to grace the walls of the famous houses of Baghdad and still graces the walls of the Prophetic Rawda in Madina Munawwara and Salahuddin’s Tomb in Damascus. You may be familiar with the refrain, often sung between verses:

مَولَاىَ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ دَائِمًا أَبَدًا
ِعَلَى حَبِيبِكَ خَيرِ الْخَلْقِ كُلِّهِم

O my Lord, bless and grant peace always and forever
Upon Your beloved one, the Best of all Creation

This class will cover an introduction to The Burda, a review of its 10 chapters, and an explanation its stanzas. This poem is arguably the most memorized and recited poem in the Muslim world, and we are looking forward to learning it, to loving the Prophet ﷺ and to bringing more light to our Ramadan through it.
